Dear Friends and Collegues,
I am very proud to serve as the 2016-2017 President of ISASS. Each ISASS conference inspires my own research and practice; this is perhaps one of the main reasons I feel so strongly and passionately about the continued need for an international society such as ISASS that caters directly to the unique issues we collectively face as spine surgeons. I truly believe that only by coming together and supporting each other as an extended family can we continue to grow in our individual practice and provide better care to our patients.
My main reason for reaching out to you as an ISASS member, is to articulate my commitment and the commitment of the ISASS Board of Directors to provide value for your membership and ensure that ISASS is providing the support you expect. We are continually engaged in activities that reinforce the value of your ISASS membership: creating educational programs and exchange opportunities; keeping you up-to-date on the latest clinical information and policy and advocacy news; fighting for appropriate coverage and reimbursement; and advocating for patient access to medically necessary treatment. We strive to keep an open dialogue with our membership and turn to you to provide feedback and help identify opportunities for sustainability and growth.
One of the most effective ways to ensure an open dialogue is to provide a forum for sharing research and exchanging ideas. The energy and synergy that is generated by meeting as a group is priceless; the greater the number and diversity of participants, the more we gain individually and collectively. In view of the importance of regularly meeting as a group, I encourage you to attend the ISASS 2017 annual meeting April 12-14, 2017 in Boca Raton, Florida, USA. Each year, we strive to cover the most relevant issues in surgical spine care at our annual meeting--biomechanics, innovative technologies, degenerative conditions, and value and outcomes in spine surgery, just to name a few-- you are sure to find a variety of topics that will inform your everyday practice. In the interim, please consider attending one of the many events that make up the ISASS Educational Series, from China to Germany and many locations in between, ISASS continues to offer timely and informative educational courses.
The "I" in ISASS stands for "International" and as your President, it is my top priority that we remain an international society. Our Program Committee and Abstract Review Committee for ISASS17 are comprised of members from close to twenty different countries and truly reflect the geographic diversity of our Society. 2017 Overall Program Chair, Kern Singh, MD has challenged all members of the Committees to develop a program that will be of interest to all who attend. Committee members will be on the look out for the best papers submitted to highlight the key interests and innovations from each corner of the globe.
Boca Raton, familiarly known to locals as "Boca," is the perfect location for ISASS17. The Boca Raton Hotel is nestled in a Mediterranean inspired historic village not far from the South Florida coastline. All ISASS meetings will be held at the Mizner Center located a few steps from the hotel rooms at The Boca Raton Hotel. Many buildings in the area have a Mediterranean revival or Spanish Colonial revival architectural theme, initially inspired by Addison Mizner, the architect who heavily influenced the city’s early development. After attending meetings all day, a relaxing walk on the beach will be a welcome release. Boca also offers golf courses, fine hotels, wondrous art museums, jazz clubs, concerts at Mizner Park, luxurious shopping at the Town Center shopping mall, with 220 upscale and specialty shops, and elsewhere around town, countless family- owned boutiques. And let’s not forget fine restaurants, some of the best in South Florida. Boca is located in the heart of Florida’s Atlantic Ocean coast. The average temperatures in April will be in the 80’s °F during the day and mid 60’s °F in the evening. Boca Raton is 19.45 miles from the Fort Lauderdale airport, 23.19 miles from Palm Beach International Airport, and 47 miles from the Miami International Airport.
We are many, but we are scattered around the globe. In annually renewing your ISASS membership and by attending the ISASS annual conference, we have the opportunity to come together to learn, grow, and address our shared challenges. Thank you for your continued support of ISASS. I look forward to welcoming you to Boca Raton, Florida for ISASS17.

By booking your room through the official ISASS housing bureau and staying at an official ISASS 2017 Annual Conference Hotel, you are supporting your society and helping your association meet its obligations and control attendee registration costs. Every attendee who books a room outside of ISASS’s room block compromises the association’s obligations to the hotels, prohibits the housing bureau from protecting your room if the hotel sells out, and exposes ISASS to significant financial penalties.
Please support the ISASS Annual Conference by staying at the official conference hotel and booking your room through ISASS. You will be at the epicenter of the conference as you contribute to ISASS’s ability to control registration fees this year and in years to come.
In the event you have any problems with your reservation or accommodations, ISASS can only assist in reconciling those issues if your reservation was booked through the ISASS housing bureau. If you have questions about an unauthorized solicitation, the online reservation system, or about housing in general, please contact ISASS Housing at +1 469 568 0224
